The Senior Assistant Superintendent will supervise the Irrigation Tech, Greenkeepers, and Interns. In addition to the aforementioned supervisory responsibilities, the Senior Assistant Superintendent will collaborate closely with the Superintendent and serve as secondary/backup supervision for the entire Agronomy team.
Job Responsibility:
Assist in golf course grow-in and maintenance phases, as well as future course construction projects
Manage maintenance operations to ensure exceptional playing conditions, aligning with our quality standards
Supervise the care of drainage, irrigation, and water systems
Help prepare the annual maintenance budget and operational plan, adhering to fiscal discipline and company policies
Organize staffing schedules to maintain quality while ensuring cost efficiency
Lead and develop the Irrigation Tech, Greenkeepers and other critical personnel
Oversee recruitment, training, and performance evaluations, fostering a professional work environment
Enforce compliance with safety and environmental regulations
Collaborate with the other Assistants and Equipment Manager to develop a cohesive team culture
Direct turf, plant, and tree care activities, including planting, fertilization, and pest control
Assist in the creation and execution of comprehensive care programs
Engage in research and development to improve turf management practices
Ensure cleanliness and organization of all facility areas
Keep accurate operational records and manage report submissions on time
Monitor purchasing and inventory for optimal resource use
Engage in continuous learning and participate in industry associations to stay abreast of developments
Requirements:
2-4 year college degree in turfgrass management or closely related field is required
5+ years of management experience in golf course maintenance as an assistant superintendent or higher is required
Multiple years of experience with troubleshooting turfgrass disease and irrigation problems
Posses or ability to obtain a Washington applicator’s license within 6 months of hire date
Self starter with the passion to become a golf course superintendent
Responsible for River Ranch day-to-day activities/maintenance and executing the superintendent’s goals and standards for the golf course
Ability to step in and lead the operation in the superintendent’s absence
Demonstrated ability in budgeting, fiscal management, and strategic planning
Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure and adapt to flexible working hours
Nice to have:
Experience with fescue and golf course construction/grow-in phases is desirable
