Job Description:

Our client are a well-known local government entity located in the Brisbane CBD. They are currently seeking a Senior Asset Accountant to come in and assist them on a 6 month temp contract with possible extensions.

Job Responsibility:

  • Financial Expenditure Analysis: Analyze project spending to accurately distinguish between Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) and Operating Expenditure (OPEX), ensuring precise allocation to specific assets within SAP
  • Project Reconciliation & Stakeholder Liaison: Lead the reconciliation of capital project costs and collaborate with asset delivery teams to provide expert guidance on the accounting treatment of project-related expenses
  • Lifecycle Asset Management: Manage the end-to-end asset creation process, including establishing new records in the system and maintaining the integrity of all associated asset attributes
  • Assets Under Construction (AUC) Capitalization: Execute the capitalization of AUC for major projects by partnering with business units to determine final valuations in strict alignment with BCC principles and reporting templates
  • Audit-Ready Documentation: Prepare high-quality, audit-standard workpapers using standardized templates to ensure transparency, compliance, and seamless external review processes
  • Team Leadership & Quality Assurance: Supervise junior staff and perform critical reviews of financial workpapers to maintain accuracy, foster professional development, and ensure departmental standards

Requirements:

  • Experience in asset capitalisation, disposals and revaluation across multiple asset classes
  • CPA/CA Qualification or working towards it, or relevant tertiary degree
  • Experience in large, complex organisations, ideally in Local Government or public sector
  • Experience working with large ERP systems
  • Experience with infrastructure assets
