We are looking for an experienced and highly organised Senior Artworker to join our fast-paced, creative team. The successful candidate will be adept at multi-tasking and possess excellent technical print-production skills. The Art & Design department are a creative, collaborative, and vibrant team. We are responsible for creating cover designs across all genres, working closely with other departments from the initial brief to the final print-ready files. Our work involves sourcing and developing illustrations, photography, and original designs. We value new ideas and efficient processes, and we enjoy being at the heart of every book we publish. As Senior Artworker, you will be the champion for technical and visual consistency across all Pan Macmillan adult imprints and select Macmillan Children’s Books. Reporting to the Studio Manager, you will produce high-quality print-ready artwork while managing your daily tasks and priorities. You will act as a clear technical link between design and production, helping to ensure our creative visions are translated accurately onto the finished books.
Job Responsibility:
Coordinate projects: Take ownership of artwork projects, ensuring tasks are completed on schedule through clear planning and communication
Support the Studio: Help lead the team by standing in for the Studio Manager when needed and offering technical guidance to colleagues
Produce quality artwork: Create, check, and refine complex digital files for print, ensuring every project meets our high technical standards
Technical collaboration: Work closely with our production team and external printers to coordinate technical printing details and ensure high-quality finished products
Improve how we work: Help us adopt new tools and workflows that make our team more efficient and innovative
Manage data: Use our internal system (Biblio) to input data and create reports, ensuring our publishing information is accurate
Handle specialist tasks: Manage the artwork for book reprints and "Special Edition" projects that require unique finishes and extra attention to detail
Requirements:
Technical expertise: High proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and a demonstrable understanding of the digital print process, layout and typography
Studio experience: Significant experience working in a creative studio environment where high-quality visual standards are a priority
Software skills: Experience working with systems and tools such as MS Office, Google Workspace and Biblio
Attention to detail: A methodical approach to checking files and a proactive way of reaching technical goals
Clear communication: The ability to build positive relationships and explain technical information simply to colleagues across different departments
