Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Application Database Administrator (App DBA) at the Vice President level to join our Data Platform and Data Strategy team. This role is critical for the design, development, and performance optimization of large-scale data solutions, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of our critical data infrastructure.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead the design, development, and performance tuning of complex, large-scale database solutions within the Data Platform and Data Strategy domain
  • Collaborate closely with CTI DBA and Windows SA domain experts to coordinate and ensure seamless execution of database patching and other essential maintenance activities
  • Define and establish comprehensive requirements for maintainability, performance, security, quality, and usability across the data platform, including backup strategies, archival processes, and routine DBA operations
  • Optimize existing applications on SQL Server and Oracle platforms to achieve peak performance and efficiency
  • Develop, document, and evangelize robust database standards for adoption across the organization
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of complex issues, providing actionable recommendations and driving effective solutions even when the optimal path is not immediately apparent

Requirements

  • Proficient in Oracle 19c and later versions
  • Strong command of Unix environments
  • Experience with GitHub and Autosys
  • Fundamental knowledge and practical experience with Python/Unix scripting and ETL processes
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proven track record of identifying trends and ensuring data quality
  • Highly self-motivated, capable of working independently with minimal supervision, and adept at managing multiple priorities under pressure
  • 10+ years of progressive IT experience, with a significant focus on database administration
  • Extensive exposure to routine basic DBA activities
  • Expertise in database monitoring and server-level performance tuning
  • Strong understanding of database fundamentals and advanced concepts, with the ability to write efficient SQL queries and optimize existing ones
  • Proven data modeling experience (OLAP, OLTP, Logical/Physical Modeling, Normalization, performance tuning)
  • Demonstrated experience in automating routine DBA tasks using Unix/Python scripting
  • Experience in data migration and data integration projects
  • Comprehensive knowledge of software engineering principles
  • Experience in the Finance Industry is a must
  • Proficient with all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Elasticsearch
  • Knowledge of various cache technologies
  • Experience with other ETL tools
  • Knowledge of agile (Scrum) development methodologies
  • Understanding of system-level concepts including data structures, algorithms, distributed storage, and compute
  • A 'can-do' attitude towards solving complex business problems, coupled with excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills

  • Create logic that understands database cluster relationships, messaging dependencies, and application-to-database connections
  • Architect and develop automation playbooks for incident data enrichment and automated remediation of common database and middleware issues, such as connection pool resets or service restarts
  • Identify monitoring gaps across the data and middleware landscape, proposing enhancements to ensure comprehensive health monitoring and address blind spots in transactional flows
  • Partner closely with Database Administration (DBA), middleware engineering, and application teams to validate correlation logic, build consensus on threshold changes, and provide expert guidance on event management best practices
  • Continuously validate the effectiveness of implemented rules and automation, ensuring critical health indicators remain highly visible
