Job Description:

Butler Rose is working with a local government in North West London in their search for an experienced Senior Appeals Officer (Housing Benefits) to focus exclusively on appeals. This is a temporary role up until 31st May 2026, paying up to £30.03 per hour via an umbrella company. This hybrid role is primarily home-based with occasional office meetings in Harrow, and requires travel to tribunal hearings (several per month). Candidates should ideally live near Harrow, Watford, or London.

Job Responsibility:

  • Manage appeal cases, prepare submissions, and attend tribunal hearings
  • Respond to appeals queries and escalations
  • Deputise for the Team Leader and provide guidance to officers
  • Ensure compliance with housing benefit, council tax, and social care regulations

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in Housing Benefit appeals
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and financial assessment systems (e.g., Northgate, Civica)
  • Excellent communication, relationship management, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure
