Amgen's Comparative Medicine is hiring a Senior Animal Care Technician at the Thousand Oaks, CA location. In this vital role you will have a chance to maintain a world-class animal facility central to the discovery of new medicines for critical treatments, including oncology, heart disease, and inflammation.
Job Responsibility:
Care for laboratory animals
Provide husbandry and perform cage change procedures
Perform daily health observations
May provide technical procedures include training, enrichment, blood sampling, dosing, anesthesia, necropsy, scientific techniques, and record scientific data
Handling and restraint of a variety laboratory animals
Management of advanced portions of the program including the sentinel program and care of covered species
Assist in receiving process, housing, and shipping
Monitor inventory of animal feed and bedding, and enrichment amongst other supplies
Operate husbandry-related equipment such as cage wash, autoclave, laminar air flow cabinets, and other equipment
Routinely wash, autoclave, and prepare caging and equipment
Maintain and organize (5S, lean management) laboratory spaces for success of research
Provide supplies and support for investigators conducting scientific experiments
Normally this full-time position, 40 hours per week, will require weekend husbandry coverage on a rotational basis and overtime as needed
Requirements:
Associate’s degree and 4 years of directly related experience
High school diploma / GED and 6 years of directly related experience
AALAS certification at the LAT level
RVT, BS/BA, and/or Associates in animal science, biology, or related field
Animal care experience in at least one setting: laboratory, veterinary, boarding, or agriculture
In vivo skills including handling, sample collections, dosing, and tissue collections
Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
Desire to be a team player in a dynamic, cross-functional environment
Basic commutation skills in Outlook, Excel, and Word plus the ability to fill online forms
Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, protective clothing, and eye safety glasses
Perform physical tasks including standing, use of hand, walk, bend, kneel, sit, and occasionally move materials up to 50 pounds
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
Nice to have:
AALAS certification at the LAT level
RVT, BS/BA, and/or Associates in animal science, biology, or related field
Animal care experience in at least one setting: laboratory, veterinary, boarding, or agriculture
In vivo skills including handling, sample collections, dosing, and tissue collections
Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
Desire to be a team player in a dynamic, cross-functional environment
