Help us create a better future, quicker SP Energy Networks (SPEN) plays a vital role in ensuring we keep up with the evolving way our customers and communities generate, consume, and interact with energy through the provision of services that are crucial to the delivery of the Government’s ambitious Net Zero and Low Carbon targets. Know within Scottish Power as Senior Energy System Specialist, you will join our diverse and high performing Flexibility team which is a core part of the Distribution System Operation function. Flexibility is about changing how our customers use energy, turning up or down at the right times to help manage an increasingly dynamic network. To incentivise this we operate Flexibility Service Markets, engaging with a broad range of market participants from aggregators acting on behalf of domestic customers through to large generators. It will be your responsibility to support, develop and embed the processes and systems that enable us to procure Flexibility Services. Flexibility will help unlock cleaner generation, faster electrification, and consumer driven energy. To do this we procure Flexibility Services to support: Network Investment – Deferring the need for network investment or supporting the deliverability of investment to ensure that customers can connect to our network and reduce overall costs for consumers. Network Operability – Customers providing support during planned or unplanned outages driven by planned outages or severe weather events.
Job Responsibility:
Supporting the expansion of Flexibility Services into the operational businesses of SPEN though operational experience and analysis
Supporting on technical and policy solutions to meet Licence obligations, business requirements that represent a benefit for our customers, wider society and our shareholders
Supporting on the commercial and systems analysis that supports decisions making, policy development and the delivery of flexible alternatives to manage network constraints
Providing industry support through attendance at Working Groups and Industry Forums to influence the direction of key developments within the sector
Active customer and stakeholder engagement, support delivery of industry changes to impacted SPEN business units ensuring best practise is adopted and implemented
Supporting major business changes across impacted teams and or areas of SPEN
Supporting continual performance improvement through analysis of outputs and feedback from internal and external sources
Fulfilling duties in relation to any assigned storm role as required
Requirements:
Strong analytical skills
Awareness of the regulatory and legislative landscape, including codes, licence, standards and regulatory incentives preferable
Awareness and understanding of key business drivers and the external commercial context in which SPEN is operating
Stakeholder management skills
Ability to communicate and present information effectively at a range of levels
Project/programme co-ordination experience
Ability to devise solutions to problems/challenges
