Job Description:

We're looking for an experienced and proactive Senior Accounts Payable Clerk to take the lead on the Accounts Payable (AP) function for Betfred's South African business. This role combines hands-on AP responsibilities with a coordination role across a small team of AP clerks based in South Africa. You'll act as the key link between the UK and SA finance AP team, ensuring accurate, timely processing of payables while promoting consistency, strong financial controls, and continuous improvement across the function.

Job Responsibility:

  • Take ownership of end-to-end AP processes including invoice receipt, coding, approval, and posting
  • Ensure timely and accurate supplier payments in line with agreed terms
  • Complete and review supplier reconciliations, resolving queries efficiently
  • Maintain AP ledgers, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Prepare and review payment runs, including cross-border transactions
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and audit requirements
  • Support month-end close activities including accruals and reporting
  • Take the lead in coordinating day-to-day activities across the SA AP team
  • Encourage and contribute to continuous improvement in processes
  • Liaise with internal departments and finance stakeholders across the UK and South Africa
  • Build effective relationships with suppliers and resolve queries professionally
  • Work closely with the Financial Controller on AP performance and improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and consistency within AP processes
  • Support the maintenance and strengthening of financial controls
  • Assist with internal and external audit requirements
  • Ensure adherence to local regulatory and tax requirements (UK and South Africa where relevant)

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in Accounts Payable, ideally in a senior or experienced role
  • Strong understanding of AP processes, controls, and best practice
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency in finance systems and Excel
  • Ability to take initiative and lead by example within the AP function
