Job Description:

We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join our team on a contract basis. This role is based in Portland, Maine, and offers an opportunity to contribute to key accounting functions within the real estate and property industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial processes and a commitment to delivering accurate and timely results.

Job Responsibility:

Manage the month-end close process, ensuring all financial data is accurate and properly recorded
Maintain and update the general ledger by reviewing entries and reconciling discrepancies
Prepare and post journal entries to support accurate financial reporting
Conduct account reconciliations to verify the accuracy of financial records
Perform bank reconciliations to ensure alignment between internal records and bank statements
Utilize accounting systems, such as Elite 3E, to manage financial data and reporting
Collaborate with team members to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
Support financial reporting processes for affordable housing projects
Identify and address variances or errors in financial statements
Assist in audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to inquiries

Requirements:

At least 3 years of experience in accounting or a related field
Proficiency in month-end close processes and general ledger management
Strong understanding of journal entries and account reconciliation
Experience performing bank reconciliations with attention to detail
Familiarity with accounting systems such as Elite 3E or similar platforms
Excellent analytical skills and ability to work independently
Strong organizational and communication skills to manage multiple priorities

Nice to have:

Knowledge of affordable housing financial requirements is preferred
