Job Description:

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our team in San Antonio, Texas. In this long-term contract role, you will play a key part in loan portfolio reconciliations and ensuring financial accuracy for a banking institution. This position requires an individual with strong attention to detail, expertise in loan accounting, compliance standards, and financial analysis.

Job Responsibility:

Conduct comprehensive reconciliations of various loan portfolios, including commercial, consumer, mortgage, and specialty loans
Investigate and resolve discrepancies between loan servicing systems, general ledger records, and historical transactions
Analyze loan activity to identify errors related to interest accruals, payment applications, escrow accounts, and principal balances
Prepare and post adjusting journal entries with full documentation aligned with regulatory and accounting standards
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including loan operations and compliance departments, to validate loan data and address unusual activity
Develop updated reconciliation procedures and tools to improve future financial reporting processes
Ensure compliance with banking regulations and internal financial policies
Research historical loan transactions to resolve issues stemming from system migrations or incorrect amortization schedules
Strengthen data integrity and accuracy for financial reporting through meticulous analysis and corrections

Requirements:

A minimum of 5 years of detail-oriented accounting experience, ideally within the banking or financial services sector
Proficiency in loan accounting principles, including interest calculations, escrow administration, and amortization
Advanced skills in resolving complex reconciliations and addressing long-standing variances
Strong familiarity with banking and accounting systems, such as loan servicing platforms and general ledger software
Expertise in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables and complex formulas
Exceptional analytical abilities with a keen attention to detail and precision
Self-motivation and the ability to work independently in a project-driven environment
Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration across departments
