We are looking for a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team in Portland, Maine. In this contract position, you will play a crucial role in managing and overseeing various accounting activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial standards. Job Responsibility:

Prepare and manage month-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are properly recorded
Create and post journal entries to support accurate accounting records
Perform account reconciliations to verify the integrity of financial data
Conduct bank reconciliations to ensure proper alignment of cash balances
Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial records and processes
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures
Provide support for audits by preparing necessary documentation and explanations
Analyze financial data to identify trends and areas for improvement
Assist in developing and implementing accounting best practices

Requirements:

A minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a senior role
Proficiency in managing month-end close processes and general ledger activities
Strong knowledge of journal entries and account reconciliation
Experience with bank reconciliations and resolving financial discrepancies
Familiarity with accounting principles and financial reporting standards
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
Effective communication and collaboration abilities
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred
