We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team in City of Industry, California. In this role, you will play a key part in maintaining financial accuracy, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and supporting various accounting functions. Job Responsibility:
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with a focus on regulatory requirements
Assist with rate case filings, regulatory reports, and compliance documentation
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts pertaining to utility operations
Monitor and interpret regulatory changes affecting accounting and reporting practices
Support audits and collaborate with internal and external auditors
Analyze financial data and provide actionable insights for management and regulatory bodies
Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and cost allocation related to regulated assets and liabilities
Ensure compliance with industry standards, including FERC, state public utility commission, or similar regulatory agencies
Document and implement process improvements to streamline regulatory reporting
Mentor junior accounting staff and work closely with finance, operations, and compliance teams
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
CPA or advanced designation preferred
3-5+ years of accounting experience in the utilities industry or regulatory environment
Strong understanding of accounting standards and regulatory reporting requirements (e.g., FERC, GAAP)
Advanced proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in month-end close processes and financial reporting
Proficiency in preparing journal entries and maintaining general ledger accounts
Strong knowledge of financial statement preparation and bank reconciliations
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting
Ability to analyze complex financial data and provide actionable recommendations
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues and external parties
Nice to have:
Experience with regulatory filings, rate cases, or financial reporting for utilities
Familiarity with utility billing, operations, and asset management
Prior experience working with state public utility commissions or federal regulator
Experience working with subsidiary ledgers and construction-related accounting is a plus
