We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team on a contract basis in Chapin, South Carolina. In this role, you will play a key part in managing financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting governmental processes. The ideal candidate will be ready to contribute immediately, particularly in payroll management, and bring expertise in municipal accounting systems such as Edmunds and QuickBooks.
Job Responsibility:
Oversee financial programs across multiple departments, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and budgetary accounting
Initiate and recommend policies and procedures to enhance financial efficiency and compliance
Prepare comprehensive financial reports, including the Town’s annual financial statement, ensuring compliance with applicable standards
Monitor and enforce compliance with state, federal, and town financial policies during the review of transactions
Manage revenue collection processes, including property taxes, franchise fees, business licenses, and utility revenues
Compile departmental budget requests and implement controls to ensure expenditures remain within approved limits
Coordinate annual independent audits and evaluate recommendations for improvement
Maintain records of agreements and contracts, ensuring proper administration and accountability
Administer business licenses and oversee risk management initiatives, including insurance policies and coverage
Assist in preparing the annual budget in collaboration with the Town Administrator
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Proven experience in governmental accounting and financial management
Strong proficiency with accounting software, including Edmunds and QuickBooks
Ability to manage payroll processes efficiently and accurately
Familiarity with month-end close, general ledger operations, and journal entry preparation
Expertise in account and bank reconciliations
Knowledge of county government operations and financial protocols
Nice to have:
CPA certification is preferred but not required
