Job Description

A mission‑driven nonprofit organization client in Oakland is seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant to support daily accounting operations with a strong emphasis on reconciliations, affordable housing and grant-related accounting. This role is ideal for someone experienced in the nonprofit sector who is comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities, and maintaining high attention to detail.

Job Responsibility

  • Perform reconciliations with a high degree of accuracy
  • Support grant accounting, including tracking, reporting, and compliance with funding requirements
  • Assist with property management-related accounting, including rent schedules and asset activity
  • Handle select Accounts Payable functions as needed
  • Prepare and maintain schedules, reports, and supporting documentation for month-end and year-end close
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal controls
  • Collaborate with the CFO and internal teams to resolve discrepancies and streamline processes

Requirements

  • Nonprofit accounting experience required
  • Strong knowledge of grants accounting and property management accounting
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, particularly for reconciliations and schedule preparation
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem‑solving skills

Nice to have

Experience with nonprofit accounting systems is a plus- examples included: Sage, Yardi, MIP, AppFolio, Financial Edge, MRI or QuickBooks
