Direct the monthly close cycle for an assigned group of properties, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, allocations, and intercompany accounting activity
Review work completed by Staff Accountants (up to 4 direct reports), provide guidance on accounting issues, and help maintain quality and consistency across deliverables
Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for property portfolios with a strong focus on accuracy and timeliness
Evaluate financial results against budgets, investigate key variances, and communicate practical insights to support business decisions
Monitor general ledger activity to ensure transactions are recorded correctly across multiple entities and ownership structures
Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations while supporting effective internal controls and sound accounting practices
Oversee cash-related accounting tasks such as bank reconciliations, cash flow monitoring, and reserve balance tracking
Collaborate with internal departments, external partners, auditors, and tax contacts to meet reporting requirements and deadlines
Participate in process enhancements, special projects, and initiatives that strengthen and scale the accounting operation
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
At least 5 years of accounting experience, with property accounting experience strongly preferred as well as 2 years of supervisory experience in that time
Strong understanding of month-end close, accrual accounting, general ledger management, and financial statement preparation
Experience using property accounting or ERP platforms such as Yardi, Sage Intacct, or RealPage
Demonstrated ability to review work, coach entry-level team members, and provide day-to-day oversight
Excellent organizational skills with careful attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information to non-finance audiences
