We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team in Norfolk, Virginia. This role involves managing and analyzing financial operations for various foundations, including educational, athletic, museum, real estate, and alumni organizations. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and a commitment to maintaining accurate financial records.
Job Responsibility:
Conduct thorough examinations, reconciliations, and verifications of financial records to ensure accuracy and compliance
Prepare detailed financial reports by compiling and analyzing complex data sets
Manage bank reconciliations and ensure proper handling of receivables, payables, and other financial transactions
Implement and maintain best practices in financial processes under the guidance of the Accounting Supervisor
Utilize automated financial systems and advanced Microsoft Excel functions for monitoring and reporting financial data
Research and apply new accounting standards and pronouncements to improve financial operations
Collaborate with team members to address customer service inquiries and resolve financial issues effectively
Ensure compliance with fund accounting principles, particularly for non-profit organizations
Support month-end close processes and assist in maintaining general ledger accuracy
Contribute to grant accounting activities and financial reporting requirements for non-profit entities
Requirements:
Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and their application
Demonstrated expertise in reconciling bank accounts, receivables, payables, and other financial transactions
Proficiency in using automated financial systems and advanced Microsoft Excel functions, including pivot tables and lookup formulas
Experience in preparing and analyzing complex financial reports
Familiarity with fund accounting and non-profit financial practices
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Solid understanding of report writing for general ledger systems
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on customer service and problem resolution
