Job Description:

This Contract to permanent position offers the opportunity to perform advanced accounting functions, including financial reporting, analysis, and process oversight. The role also involves mentoring entry level staff and contributing to the organization’s financial success within a public sector environment.

Job Responsibility:

Prepare and review detailed financial statements and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance
Manage general ledger activities, including reconciliations and journal entries
Conduct budget preparation, forecasting, and in-depth financial analysis to support decision-making
Research and resolve complex accounting discrepancies and issues
Assist with external and internal audits by providing necessary documentation and ensuring proper controls
Provide leadership and guidance to accounting and clerical staff, fostering a collaborative work environment
Collaborate with various departments to ensure seamless financial operations
Ensure all accounting processes align with governmental and regulatory requirements
Oversee month-end and year-end closing procedures
Perform bank reconciliations and maintain accurate account records

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with at least 24 semester units in Accounting
A minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a government agency or K-12 educational environment
Strong understanding of governmental accounting principles and public sector reporting
Proficiency in budgeting, financial analysis, and compliance processes
Demonstrated ability to perform month-end close, general ledger management, and journal entries
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting systems
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication abilities
Proven experience mentoring or supervising staff in a structured setting
