Job Description:

We are looking for a skilled Senior Accountant to join our team on a contract basis in Portland, Maine. This role involves managing core accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with established standards. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in accounting practices and exceptional organizational skills to deliver high-quality results.

Job Responsibility:

Oversee the month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate completion
Maintain and update the general ledger with all necessary adjustments
Prepare and post journal entries while ensuring proper documentation
Reconcile accounts, including bank accounts, to ensure accuracy and completeness
Generate financial reports for internal and external stakeholders
Analyze financial data to identify trends and discrepancies
Ensure compliance with internal controls and regulatory standards
Collaborate with other departments to address accounting-related needs
Provide support during audits by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries

Requirements:

Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a senior role
Proficiency in managing month-end close processes and general ledger activities
Extensive knowledge of journal entries and account reconciliations
Strong ability to create and analyze financial reports
Familiarity with compliance standards and internal control practices
Advanced Excel skills for financial analysis and reporting
Excellent time management and organizational abilities
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
