Parrish & Heimbecker, Limited (P&H) has an opportunity for a motivated, forward-thinking, and dedicated individual as a Senior Fixed Assets Accountant based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The P&H Grain Division is a comprehensive grain and crop input network, operating across approximately 45 locations in the prairie provinces, Ontario and Quebec. Our strategically positioned facilities, including grain elevators, rail sidings, inland terminals, and specialized export terminals, ensure that we effectively match producer grain with the needs of both domestic and export end users. As a full-service agri-retailer, we provide farming communities with a full range of quality crop input products and agronomic solutions, encompassing crop protection products, certified seeds, nutrients, and custom applications.
Job Responsibility:
Manage the company’s fixed asset lifecycle, including maintaining the fixed asset ledger, capital project budgeting, monthly reporting related to fixed assets and capital spend, and property tax payments
Prepare entries for asset depreciation, capitalization, and screening adjustments with the use of the fixed asset system
Record fixed asset acquisitions, transfers, and disposals
Reconcile all construction-in-progress, fixed asset ledger accounts and contra-accounts
Work with the operations team to monitor disposals, movement of assets, and maintain updated records
Oversee prepaid property taxes: tracking bill accuracy and expensing, keeping a national-level historical tax database, and maintaining relationship with external tax companies
Manage fleet vehicle program
Perform financial analysis to support capital investment decisions, including lease vs. buy evaluations and ROI analysis for upcoming and completed projects
Prepare and distribute monthly capital project spend reports and complete quarterly reporting related to fixed assets, capital expenditures, and asset sales
Support annual financial processes, including coordinating the fixed asset review with country operations, preparing capital budgets, and gathering documentation for the external audit
Assist management with special projects and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements:
Post-secondary education in accounting or finance
CPA designation or progress towards is an asset
Progressive experience in accounting or financial analysis
Strong knowledge of fixed asset accounting, capital projects, and financial reporting
Effective communication and relationship-building skills, including with external vendors and auditors
Proficiency with ERP systems, particularly Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
Ability to work independently, as well as contribute to the team
Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 Application Suite, specifically Excel
