We are looking for a skilled Senior Accountant to join our team on a contract basis in Lewiston, Maine. This position is ideal for someone with a strong attention to detail and a solid background in accounting practices and financial management. You will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records while contributing to the success of a non-profit organization.

Job Responsibility:

Perform and oversee month-end closing activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
Manage and maintain the general ledger, ensuring all entries are properly documented and reconciled
Prepare and post journal entries for various transactions, ensuring compliance with accounting standards
Conduct account reconciliations to verify the accuracy of financial data and resolve discrepancies
Handle bank reconciliations, ensuring all transactions are accounted for and properly recorded
Support the preparation of financial statements and reports, providing insights into organizational performance
Collaborate with team members to ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements
Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance efficiency
Assist in audits and provide documentation and explanations as required
Maintain organized records and ensure adherence to best practices in financial management

Requirements:

Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, preferably at a senior level
Proficiency in month-end closing processes and general ledger management
Strong knowledge of journal entries and account reconciliation practices
Experience with bank reconciliations and resolving discrepancies
Familiarity with accounting principles and financial reporting standards
Attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Excellent organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines
Strong communication skills for collaborating with team members and stakeholders
