We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team in Santa Barbara, California. In this role, you will play a key part in managing financial operations, ensuring compliance, and contributing to strategic financial planning for the organization. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset to support organizational goals and sustainability.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare and analyze financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, ensuring compliance with nonprofit fund accounting standards
Develop detailed financial reports for leadership, board members, and external stakeholders to aid decision-making
Manage general ledger functions, including journal entries, reconciliations, and the closing of monthly and annual accounts
Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and expense management processes
Reconcile restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring proper allocation and compliance with donor requirements
Coordinate annual financial audits and ensure timely submission of tax filings and regulatory reports
Supervise and mentor accounting team members, fostering growth and collaboration
Enhance internal controls and financial systems to improve efficiency and safeguard assets
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management to support organizational sustainability
Collaborate with various teams to align financial processes with programmatic objectives
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting
Proficiency in fund accounting principles and familiarity with restricted fund management
Experience preparing for audits and working with external auditors
Advanced knowledge of accounting software such as NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or other similar platforms
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with budgeting tools like PlanFul
Excellent analytical and organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment
