We are seeking a highly skilled and detail‑oriented Senior Accountant to join our team. This position plays a critical role in preparing accurate financial statements, maintaining compliance with regulatory and accounting standards, and providing strategic financial insights to support operational and budgetary decisions. The Senior Accountant will collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to promote transparency, accountability, and strong fiscal stewardship.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare, review, and analyze financial reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to accounting principles and regulatory requirements
Evaluate budgets and expenditures across all funding sources—including local, state, federal, and private grants—to ensure compliance and proper fund management
Monitor, reconcile, and maintain accounting system activity, including payroll entries, invoices, and other financial transactions
Advise faculty, staff, and external partners on financial policies, procedures, and best practices, while resolving inquiries and supporting compliance
Assess revenue and expenditure trends and provide recommendations for budget adjustments, cost controls, and financial improvements
Manage and enhance financial systems and applications to support efficient data flow, reporting, and operational processes
Coordinate preparation of financial statements and produce specialized billings or reports required by funding agencies
Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring adherence to university policies and public auditing standards
Train, mentor, and oversee lower‑level accounting staff and student employees, fostering strong team performance and professional development
Conduct in‑depth financial analyses to support strategic planning and informed decision‑making across the institution
Requirements:
Proficiency in month-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations
Strong knowledge of general ledger maintenance and bank reconciliations
Experience in grant accounting and compliance with funding agency requirements
Ability to analyze and interpret financial data to produce accurate reports and projections
Knowledge of computerized financial systems and accounting applications
Familiarity with federal and state financial regulations and university accounting policies
Excellent communication skills to explain financial information and resolve issues effectively
Capability to train and guide staff on accounting practices and procedures
