Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team in Port Huron, Michigan. This is a long-term contract position ideal for someone with a strong background in accounting and financial reporting. The role involves overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance, and contributing to the accuracy and integrity of financial statements.

Job Responsibility

  • Prepare detailed financial statements and ensure their accuracy and compliance with regulations
  • Manage audit processes and fulfill documentation requirements
  • Perform account reconciliations and maintain accounting policies
  • Research and apply relevant regulations for special accounting scenarios
  • Oversee accounting and reporting activities for the organization’s charitable foundation
  • Review financial reports and statements to verify completeness and accuracy
  • Collaborate with teams to ensure compliance with regulatory and tax reporting standards
  • Handle month-end close tasks, including journal entries and general ledger maintenance
  • Conduct bank reconciliations and monitor financial transactions
  • Utilize software tools such as Microsoft Excel and proprietary systems to enhance efficiency

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • At least 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience
  • familiarity with the financial services industry is a plus
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or active candidacy is preferred
  • Solid understanding of financial statements and key accounting principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and the ability to learn new software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a detail-oriented approach
  • Proven ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

Nice to have
