A mission‑driven nonprofit organization in Central Washington is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support financial operations, grant compliance, and day‑to‑day accounting activities. This role is essential in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting program teams, and ensuring alignment with federal, state, and funding‑agency requirements.
Job Responsibility:
Manage general ledger functions, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly financial close
Prepare monthly financial statements and assist with variance analysis for department leaders
Track grant funding, monitor allowable expenses, prepare reimbursement requests, and ensure compliance with grant and contract requirements
Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes, collaborating with internal program managers
Assist with annual audit preparation and coordination with external auditors
Maintain accurate accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll allocation records
Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and nonprofit accounting principles
Produce financial reports for leadership, board members, and funding entities
Recommend improvements to accounting processes and internal controls
Provide financial guidance to program teams regarding coding, spending, and grant compliance
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
3–5 years of progressive accounting experience
Solid understanding of GAAP and fund/nonprofit accounting
Experience with grants, contracts, or restricted funding
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills
Ability to thrive in a mission‑driven, fast‑paced environment with multiple deadlines
Nice to have:
Previous nonprofit accounting experience
Knowledge of federal and state grant compliance
Experience supporting annual audit processes
Strong communication and customer‑service orientation
