Job Description

The team is responsible for accounting and financial reporting for all transactions occurring on the Airbnb and HT platforms. We ensure financial results are report accurately and timely to internal stakeholders and to external parties including governmental agencies. As a Senior Accountant within our Platform Accounting team, you will sit at the intersection of accounting, data, and systems to support our continued global growth. You will own end-to-end accounting activities, drive scalable and efficient processes, and strengthen our control environment. You will have broad exposure to various functions including Finance Technology, Product, Engineering, Business Development, and Customer Experience. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of GAAP and revenue recognition, excellent technical skills, and a passion for automation and analytics in a fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage the monthly close and financial reporting process, including preparation of routine and non-routine journal entries, reconciliations, variance analysis, and stakeholder communication
  • Support platform accounting impacting the income statement and balance sheet, ensuring accurate GAAP reporting and SOX compliance
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for accounting policies and systems, supporting new products, features, and system changes through rigorous testing and validation
  • Drive process improvements and ERP optimization to meet SLA/KPI targets and support scalable operations through standardization and automation
  • Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Procurement, Legal, and Collections teams to align accounting outcomes with operational activity and contracts
  • Leverage data and automation tools such as Alteryx, SQL, and AI-enabled workflows to analyze trends, risks, and opportunities
  • Maintain robust documentation for accounting systems and workflows to support transitions, knowledge transfer, and cross-training initiatives
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects and strategic finance initiatives, effectively communicating results and updates to leadership

Requirements

  • 6+ years of relevant experience, ideally including public accounting or a high-growth tech environment
  • B.A. or B.S. in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA certification is a strong plus
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accounting best practices, particularly regarding revenue recognition
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (Oracle Fusion highly preferred) and experience with Alteryx or SQL is preferred
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience analyzing high-volume, multi-currency transactions in a global business environment
  • Ability to own projects end-to-end, building out timelines and delivering against agreed-upon specs
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders
  • Capable of handling multiple projects in a fast-paced, hyper-growth environment with a positive, "can-do" approach
  • Ability to define and implement internal or external controls and best practices
