Job Description

Hands-on accounting role supporting complex mining operations across multiple entities; Exposure to US GAAP and IFRS reporting within a global resources organisation; Opportunity to contribute to a high-performing team with strong technical depth. Due to an internal transfer, Peabody is seeking a Senior Accountant – Operations. Reporting to the Senior Manager Financial and Operations Accounting, you will support the delivery of accurate and timely financial results across Peabody’s mining and physical trading operations. This is a hands-on role with a strong focus on month-end accounting, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and IFRS, and contributing to key reporting and governance activities. The position has no direct reports and is well suited to a detail-oriented financial accountant who enjoys working through complex accounting and operational matters.

Job Responsibility

  • Execute month-end close processes including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support accounting for mining operations including coal sales (CSP), freight, port charges, and other operational costs
  • Assist with joint venture reporting and preparation of management reports (SAP extraction and Excel analysis)
  • Contribute to financial reporting, including SEC deliverables and compliance requirements
  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls, US GAAP and IFRS, and liaise with internal and external auditors
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across accounting processes and procedures

Requirements

  • CA or CPA qualification (Big 4 background highly regarded)
  • Strong experience in month-end accounting, including journals and reconciliations
  • Experience working in a large, complex organisation
  • Solid understanding of IFRS and US GAAP
  • Hands-on experience with SAP and strong Excel capability
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities

Nice to have

  • Mining or resources experience is highly regarded but not essential
  • Big 4 background
