Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant with a strong background in the construction industry to support accounting operations, financial reporting, and project-based financial analysis. This role is responsible for overseeing general ledger activity, managing month-end close, preparing financial statements, and ensuring accurate job costing across multiple projects. The ideal candidate will have experience with construction accounting processes, including work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, progress billing, retainage, cost tracking, and project profitability analysis.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage general ledger accounting and ensure accuracy of financial data
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
  • Analyze and maintain job cost reports by project, phase, and cost code
  • Monitor project budgets versus actuals and investigate cost variances
  • Prepare and review WIP schedules and project profitability reports
  • Support or oversee progress billing, AIA billing, and revenue recognition
  • Track and reconcile retainage receivable and payable balances
  • Review subcontractor invoices, change orders, lien waivers, and contract-related documentation
  • Ensure proper allocation of labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs
  • Assist with cash flow reporting related to project activity
  • Partner with project managers and operations leaders to provide financial insights and improve cost controls

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • 4+ years of accounting experience, with experience in the construction industry preferred
  • Strong experience with job costing and project-based accounting required
  • Knowledge of WIP reporting, progress billing, percentage-of-completion concepts, and retainage
  • Experience preparing financial statements and performing account analysis
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with ERP/accounting systems
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Nice to have

  • CPA or CPA track preferred
  • Experience with construction ERP systems
  • Familiarity with AIA billing, subcontractor compliance, and contract accounting
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with finance and project teams
