Job Description

Robert Half is partnering with an Iowa ag leader to hire a Senior Accountant / Assistant Controller to support accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis activities across a diversified operating and investment environment. This role will partner closely with operations leaders, accounting leadership, and senior management to provide timely, accurate financial information and meaningful insights that support business decisions in a dynamic, evolving organization.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring timely and accurate transaction processing, account reconciliations, and month-end close
  • Support the annual budgeting process, including development and maintenance of financial models and planning frameworks across multiple operating segments
  • Maintain and update operational and financial forecast models throughout the year
  • Lead monthly variance analysis reviews with operations leaders to identify performance drivers and recommend corrective actions or business solutions
  • Prepare quarterly reporting materials summarizing financial results, key performance indicators, and major business developments for leadership and stakeholders
  • Review quarterly fund, partnership, and investment-related financial statements
  • Coordinate and help manage annual financial statement audits, including communication with external auditors
  • Lead or contribute to special projects such as property tax analysis, construction project accounting and reporting, real estate tax projects, and accounting support for technology, data, and AI-related initiatives
  • Assist with the administration, maintenance, and continuous improvement of accounting systems and software, including coordination of appropriate user access with IT
  • Support process improvements and other ad hoc projects as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3+ years of public accounting audit experience with financial reporting exposure
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt in a fast-changing business environment
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • CPA designation preferred but not required
  • Experience with a modern ERP system preferred
  • Exposure to IT, data, or AI tools and platforms preferred
  • Industry experience in agriculture a plus
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Able to communicate effectively with both finance and operations teams
  • Comfortable balancing daily accounting execution with strategic analysis and special projects
  • Motivated to grow into a broader leadership role over time

Nice to have

  • CPA designation preferred
  • Experience with a modern ERP system preferred
  • Exposure to IT, data, or AI tools and platforms preferred
