The Account Security team protects Shopify’s platform and merchants from account takeovers, phishing, abuse, and emerging threats. We restore access to accounts for the right people, at the right time. We handle sensitive information changes, validate accountholder information, and respond to incidents with speed and precision. We build and operate systems that detect, investigate, and prevent threats—without adding unnecessary friction for legitimate users. The members of this team work directly with Shopify merchants who face account access issues or need to secure their stores from account takeover. This team is customer service oriented, highly engaged, has strong communication skills, and is driven by results.
Job Responsibility:
Build, lead, and develop a high-performing, globally distributed team of account security specialists
Own strategy and execution and key metrics for your function, balancing robust security with seamless experience and continuous improvement
Ensure swift, accurate verification and restoration of access for merchants, minimizing operational downtime while helping Shopify build the capabilities that enable merchants to self-serve and improve their security hygiene practices
Collaborate within the broader team on development of tooling and automation capabilities. Driving the development and continuous improvement of detection and automation to identify and respond to threats in real time
Contribute to incident response: triage, investigate, and resolve security incidents, collaborating across security, engineering, data, trust, and product teams
Use data in many capacities: Identify opportunities to gain efficiency and automate workflows
Identify trends and patterns within the security landscape
Sharing insights with engineering and product teams to enable Shopify to manage risk more effectively and grow responsibly
Requirements:
Account security, fraud prevention, risk management, or a related field, with a focus on ATO and identity-related threats
Leading a large operational team in different time zones, supporting individual growth, providing feedback, identifying areas for efficiency gains, and unlocking additional value
Acting as the key operational partner to product, engineering, and data teams
Using data to unlock insights into business processes and driving improvements and efficiencies
Responding to incidents, conducting retros and, investigations, and collaborating with cross-functional partners, specifically within the security or identity space
Working in ecommerce, fintech, or large-scale digital platforms
