Job Description

Are you a compassionate individual who can adapt to both complex medical and emotional needs? Do you want to work in a specialist environment that celebrates every student's individuality? Are you looking for a full-time role in the Wakefield area where no two days are ever the same? About the school: We are recruiting for a highly respected Secondary Special School in the Wakefield area. This setting supports students aged 11-19 with a wide spectrum of needs, including Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. Contract: Full-time. Daily Rate: £98 - £140 (depending on experience). This is a rewarding role requiring a versatile approach. You will spend your day supporting students who have profound physical and learning disabilities, while also being able to offer firm but empathetic guidance to those who face emotional and behavioural barriers to learning.

Job Responsibility

  • Diverse Support: Transitioning smoothly between providing intensive personal care (feeding/changing/moving) and supporting SEMH students with emotional regulation
  • Communication: Utilising specialised tools like Makaton, PECS, or sensory cues to engage with non-verbal learners
  • Resilience: Maintaining a calm, patient, and professional manner when supporting students during periods of emotional distress
  • Teamwork: Working alongside a multidisciplinary team to follow individualised Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs)

Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS: On the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for a new one)
  • Right to Work: Valid eligibility to work in the UK
  • Experience: Previous experience supporting children or adults with PMLD, complex needs, or SEMH
  • Qualifications: Relevant Level 2/3 TA or Health & Social Care qualification is preferred

  • Expert Support: A dedicated consultant who understands the Wakefield specialist education market
  • CPD: Free training including Safeguarding and Team Teach
  • Weekly Pay: Reliable weekly pay via PAYE
