Job Description

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Bristol is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join our team from September. This rewarding role will involve supporting pupils with a high level of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to access learning, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with complex SEND needs
  • Work closely with teachers, SEND professionals, and external agencies to implement individual support plans
  • Adapt learning activities to meet pupils' individual needs
  • Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation, sensory needs, and social development
  • Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
  • Record and monitor pupil progress and contribute to review meetings
  • Support pupils during lessons, playtimes, transitions, and other aspects of the school day
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage independence wherever possible

Requirements

  • Has experience working with children with SEND, ideally within a primary school setting
  • Demonstrates patience, resilience, and a caring approach
  • Has a good understanding of autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH, or other complex learning needs
  • Can build positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues
  • Is flexible, proactive, and able to respond to the changing needs of pupils
  • Has excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
