The Opportunity We are looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a highly regarded specialist school in Wetherby. This school is a 'non-maintained' specialist setting with a rich heritage, specifically designed for children and young people (ages 4-19) with a range of needs, including hearing impairments, autism, and communication difficulties. The school is a calm, sensory-friendly environment that focuses on building resilience and self-acceptance.
Job Responsibility:
Providing tailored support to pupils with sensory impairments, speech and language challenges, or autism.
Working in small class sizes (usually no more than 8 students) to ensure high-quality, individualised attention.
Assisting in the implementation of EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans) and supporting therapeutic goals.
Helping students develop independence and confidence in a 'total communication' environment.
Collaborating with an in-house team of experts, including Speech and Language Therapists and Audiologists.
Requirements:
An interest or experience in supporting those with communication barriers (knowledge of BSL is a bonus but not essential).
A patient, nurturing approach to managing different learning and emotional needs.
The ability to work closely with specialist teachers and therapeutic staff.
Previous experience in a SEND environment or a care-based role is highly preferred.
An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for a new one).
Confirmed eligibility to work in the UK.
Two professional references (covering the last 24 months).
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
