Job Description

Do you want to make a real difference supporting children and young people who face barriers to learning due to Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Are you resilient, patient, and ready to support primary and secondary-aged learners in a structured, nurturing specialist environment? Set within a specialist SEMH provision, this school provides a caring, inclusive environment where every pupil is supported through a personalised curriculum designed to challenge and inspire. With a strong focus on "Re-engage, Refocus and Reintegrate," pupils are given a fresh start to rebuild confidence, develop self-awareness and prepare for future pathways in education or life beyond school. Staff work collaboratively in an "us" culture, promoting positive behaviour, emotional growth and essential life skills, ensuring every young person is supported to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. This opportunity begins with a 12-week temporary placement before transferring into the school's permanent staff team.

Job Responsibility

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs
  • Helping students regulate emotions and develop positive learning behaviours
  • Working closely with teaching staff to deliver structured classroom support
  • Acting as a consistent, positive role model for vulnerable learners
  • Supporting engagement in lessons, routines and school life
  • Building strong, trusting relationships to promote emotional wellbeing and progress

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people (education, care, youth work or similar)
  • GCSE Maths & English (required)
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour positively
  • Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
  • Passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs
