Job Description

justteachers is seeking a patient and adaptable SEND Teaching Assistant specialized in Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) for a specialist school in Leicester City. In this role, you will be working with students who require additional support to access the curriculum, often needing tasks broken down into smaller, manageable steps. You will play a vital part in building their confidence and life skills, helping them to navigate both academic challenges and social interactions.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with MLD, ensuring they remain engaged with their learning tasks
  • Adapt classroom materials under the guidance of the class teacher to suit the cognitive levels of individual pupils
  • Support students in developing their social skills and emotional resilience during break times and group activities
  • Assist with the implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and track progress toward specific targets
  • Provide a calm and stable presence for students who may become frustrated or overwhelmed by academic work

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Previous experience supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in an educational setting
  • Excellent communication skills and a high level of empathy and patience
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • An Enhanced DBS registered with the Update Service
