Job Description

Justteachers is supporting the recruitment of a compassionate and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to join a complex‑needs SEND school in Harrogate. This is a full‑time, long‑term role to start in September. This specialist setting supports pupils with complex needs, including PMLD, SLD, ASC and SEMH, requiring personalised support, high‑staff‑to‑pupil ratios and a calm, nurturing learning environment. Pupils benefit from a holistic approach that focuses on care, communication, sensory engagement and independence.

Job Responsibility

  • Providing high-quality 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with complex needs
  • Supporting pupils with personal care, feeding and mobility where required
  • Using communication strategies such as Makaton, PECS, symbols or objects of reference
  • Supporting emotional regulation, wellbeing and engagement throughout the school day

Requirements

  • Experience supporting children or young people with complex SEND needs
  • A patient, nurturing and emotionally resilient approach
  • Willingness to support personal care and physical needs
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Experience in education, care, health or a similar setting
  • Two professional references from a SEND, education or care environment
  • Legal right to work in the UK
