Job Description:

Specialist SEND Teacher (History & Geography GCSE). A school is seeking a highly skilled and empathetic SEND Secondary Teacher specialising in History and Geography up to GCSE level. This is a unique opportunity to join the founding team of our new SEND Secondary School in Surrey, opening in September 2025. We deliver specialised education for students aged 11-16 with Autism, social communication, emotional regulation, and sensory processing needs.

Job Responsibility:

  • Deliver outstanding teaching and learning in History and Geography to students with complex needs up to GCSE
  • Develop, implement, and assess tailored short, medium, and long-term lesson plans
  • Set, monitor, and review personalised learning targets to track student progress
  • Maintain an up-to-date awareness of current best practices in Autism education
  • Manage challenging behaviours effectively, adhering to school policies
  • Contribute to ongoing curriculum development for pupils with SEND
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders, reporting on student achievement

Requirements:

  • PGCE, Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Demonstrable ability to teach History and Geography to GCSE
  • Strong working knowledge of students with complex needs and SEND
  • In-depth understanding and experience of Autism and associated co-morbid conditions, and their impact on learning
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the National Curriculum framework
  • Evidence of commitment to continuous professional development
  • 1+ year relevant teaching experience
