Job Description

A welcoming and supportive nursery in Lambeth is seeking a confident and compassionate SEND Early Years Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a bright and articulate 4-year-old child with complex sensory needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference during a crucial developmental stage, within a setting committed to improvement and inclusive practice.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support tailored to the child’s sensory and emotional needs
  • Support gradual and structured transitions towards peer interaction
  • Work collaboratively with the nursery team, SENCO, and the child’s family
  • Contribute to and support the development of the child’s EHCP
  • Spend part of each afternoon working in the main nursery room, providing respite time and wider classroom support

Requirements

  • Strong background or qualification in SEND / Early Years / Psychology / Education
  • Excellent understanding of sensory needs and inclusive practice
  • Patient, nurturing, and confident in supporting children with complex needs
  • Reflective and keen to develop professionally within a supportive team

  • Attend all staff events including parents evening, staff meetings and summer fairs, some of these may be out of hours and on weekends
  • Identify and support children with SEND, working with staff, parents, and external agencies to monitor progress and arrange appropriate support
