Job Description:

In the Withington and Longsight areas of Manchester, we are supporting a specialist primary provision. This school is a dedicated nurturing environment for children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, where the goal is to help pupils understand themselves and others better. We are looking for Teaching Assistants who can support a stage not age developmental approach, ensuring every child feels safe enough to take risks in their learning. Job Responsibility:

Support a nurturing curriculum that prioritises emotional literacy and well being alongside academic progress
Use de-escalation and restorative practices to maintain a safe and supportive home base for learning
Implement specialist communication strategies, including visuals and scripts, to support pupils with speech and language needs
Assist pupils in developing essential life skills such as teamwork, self-management, and problem-solving
Work closely with the class team to provide a graduated response to each child's unique SEMH and SEND profile
Foster trusting relationships with families to encourage a collaborative approach to the child's education
Help children re-engage with education through creative, solutions-focused support during classroom activities
Participate in repair and reflection sessions with pupils to help them learn from challenging moments

Requirements:

Previous experience in an SEMH, PRU, or a high-intervention Primary setting
A strong understanding of nurture principles and the ability to apply them in a classroom setting
Proven experience with behaviour management and de-escalation (Team Teach or similar training is highly advantageous)
Full-time availability (Monday to Friday) to provide the consistency these pupils require
A patient, resilient mindset with a commitment to a trauma-informed approach
Ability to adapt communication styles to meet the developmental stage of the individual child
An enhanced DBS on the update service or a willingness to complete a new application
