We are seeking a highly experienced, patient, and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 4 pupil with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) and a history of significant trauma. This role requires a calm, flexible, and trauma-informed approach, with a strong understanding of how anxiety and past experiences can impact behaviour and learning. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support team to create a safe, trusting, and supportive environment that enables the pupil to engage with learning at their own pace.
Job Responsibility:
Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day
Use low-demand, choice-based strategies tailored to PDA profiles
Support emotional regulation and reduce anxiety through a trauma-informed approach
Build a secure, trusting relationship with the pupil
Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs and interests
Support the pupil during transitions and unstructured times
Implement agreed behaviour and support plans sensitively and consistently
Work collaboratively with school staff and external professional
Requirements:
Previous experience supporting pupils with PDA and/or complex behavioural needs
Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice
Calm, patient, and emotionally resilient approach
Ability to de-escalate situations and respond flexibly to challenging behaviour
Experience working 1:1 in a primary school setting
Nice to have:
Experience supporting pupils with Autism and SEMH needs
Relevant SEN or behaviour support training
Knowledge of attachment-aware and relational approaches
