A fantastic opportunity is available for a proactive, highly empathetic, and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join the hardworking team at a respected SEN School in Wisbech on a temporary contract (with a strong potential for extension or permanent placement). This role is crucial to the successful delivery of highly individualised education. Working closely with the Class Teacher, you will actively assist in lesson preparation, manage student resources, and primarily focus on providing direct, tailored support to students both within the classroom and during external activities. You will be instrumental in implementing strategies outlined in individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) to promote independence, encourage communication, and support sensory and personal care needs, directly enhancing the students' overall school experience and well-being.
Job Responsibility:
Provide high-quality, targeted support to individual students or small groups, helping them access the curriculum and achieve their EHCP targets
Assist the class teacher with the preparation of resources, maintenance of a stimulating learning environment, and general classroom management
Support students with personal care needs (e.g., feeding, mobility, toileting) as required, maintaining dignity and respect at all times
Effectively implement behaviour management strategies and communication techniques (e.g., Makaton, PECS) as directed by the class teacher and specialists
Accurately record and report on student progress, behaviour, and any concerns to the class teacher and relevant staff members
Contribute positively to the school community, upholding all safeguarding protocols and school policies
Requirements:
Significant, demonstrable experience working as a Teaching Assistant, ideally within an SEN or specialist setting
A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent) is highly desirable, but extensive experience will also be considered
Proven ability to support students with a range of Special Educational Needs (e.g., ASC, MLD, Complex Needs)
Exceptional patience, resilience, adaptability, and a genuine passion for supporting students with barriers to learning
Knowledge of various communication aids and positive behaviour support strategies
A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to obtain one promptly)
