We are working with a welcoming mainstream primary school seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support deaf children within the classroom environment. Job Responsibility:
Providing targeted 1:1 and small-group support for deaf pupils
Supporting access to learning through visual strategies, adapted resources, and inclusive communication approaches
Reinforcing instructions, key vocabulary, and lesson content
Supporting social communication and peer interaction
Working closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and external professionals (e.g. Teachers of the Deaf)
Encouraging independence, confidence, and self-advocacy
Upholding safeguarding and inclusive practice at all times
Requirements:
Has experience supporting deaf or hearing-impaired children (school or other settings)
Is patient, calm, and highly attuned to children’s communication needs
Can adapt learning materials and communication styles effectively
Works well as part of a team and takes guidance confidently
Has a strong commitment to inclusive education
Nice to have:
Experience with sign-supported communication or BSL is highly desirable
