We are searching for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant for an immediate start at a specialist school community in Cambridge. This is a full-time, long-term role perfect for someone who understands that a 'standard' approach doesn't work for every learner. You will be supporting students with diverse needs-ranging from Autism (ASC) and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) to complex communication profiles-ensuring they feel safe, seen, and supported every single day.
Job Responsibility:
Academic Adaptation: Work 1:1 to break down lesson objectives into visual, tactile, and sensory-friendly tasks that align with the student's specific learning style
Communication Bridging: Facilitate social and academic engagement using PECS, Makaton, or visual schedules to help students find their voice and reduce frustration
Regulated Learning Support: Identify early triggers of sensory distress and implement 'brain breaks' or sensory circuit activities to help students return to a state of calm
EHCP Milestone Advocacy: Collaborate with the Class Teacher to track and record daily progress toward Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets, celebrating every milestone achieved
Safe Haven Creation: Maintain a structured, predictable environment where students feel secure enough to explore new skills and build social confidence
Requirements:
Emotional Resilience: You are the 'calm in the storm,' capable of remaining objective and supportive during periods of high-pressure or challenging behaviour
A Learner's Mindset: You are eager to adopt specialist techniques and are willing to learn the specific nuances of each student you support
