Job Description

A diverse school in Waltham Forest is seeking a Psychology Graduate to join them as an SEN Teaching Assistant, supporting both primary and secondary pupils for an ASAP start. The Psychology Graduate will also be supporting children with various special needs including mental health, autism, speech and language difficulties and helping them develop their learning, social and emotional skills. Full-time, long-term role starting ASAP! Located In the Borough of Waltham Forest.

Requirements

  • Psychology (or even Sociology) Graduate
  • Training or experience in SEN, child development or mental health support (desirable)
  • Creative with a positive personality
  • Compassionate, patient, and empathetic towards children with diverse needs
  • Interest in pursuing a career in teaching, educational psychology, or child development

  • Age-Appropriate Support: Adapt approach to support children developing foundational skills in Primary, through to young adults preparing for life after school
  • Proactive Behaviour Management: Utilise positive strategies to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours, maintaining a safe and nurturing environment
  • Collaboration: Monitor progress and provide detailed feedback to teachers, the SENCo, and external agencies like Educational Psychologists
  • Pastoral Care: Support emotional well-being and assist with personal care or mobility where required (full training provided)
