We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join an Alternative Provision (AP) school in the North Cornwall area. This role involves supporting young people with a range of complex needs who are unable to access mainstream education. Students may present with behavioural, social and emotional difficulties, and may be on fixed-term exclusion or at risk of permanent exclusion. Some pupils may also have mental health or welfare needs, or physical and medical conditions that prevent regular attendance at mainstream schools.
Job Responsibility:
Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with complex additional needs
Support pupils with behavioural, social and emotional difficulties in a calm and consistent manner
Assist students in engaging with learning and developing positive relationships
Implement behaviour support strategies and follow individual support plans
Work closely with teachers, SEN staff and external professionals to support student progress
Promote a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment
Requirements:
Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, SEMH or complex needs
Confident supporting challenging behaviour and emotional regulation
Patient, resilient and able to build strong, trusting relationships
Understanding of trauma-informed practice (desirable but not essential)
Committed to supporting vulnerable young people to achieve positive outcomes
