Are you ready to be the daily anchor who ensures a student feels genuinely seen, validated, and supported? Do you possess the deep compassion required to champion small 'inch-stone' successes, combined with the personal resilience to remain a reassuring presence when a child's environment becomes overwhelming? If you want a career where your emotional intelligence is valued just as highly as your practical skills, Randstad Education wants to hear from you. We are seeking an empathetic and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant for a full-time, long-term position at a well regarded SEN School in Watford. This thriving educational community is dedicated to young people with complex needs, including Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and sensory processing challenges. In this role, you will become part of a collaborative team that treats student dignity and individual progress as top priorities.
Job Responsibility
1:1 Dedicated Mentorship: Implement tailored, sensory-friendly learning activities designed by the Class Teacher to meet the unique emotional and cognitive needs of individual pupils
Communication Advocacy: Serve as a vital bridge for students utilizing PECS, Makaton, or visual schedules, ensuring every child has an accessible framework to express themselves
Sensory Regulation: Dynamically spot environmental triggers and facilitate sensory circuits or structured 'brain breaks' to help pupils maintain emotional balance and focus
Progress Tracking: Document and gather evidence of small-step progress toward specific Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) targets to support formal student reviews
Dignified Care Support: Support pupils with mobility, meal times, and personal hygiene, managing every task with the absolute utmost respect for the student's comfort and privacy
Wrap-Around Collaboration: Partner closely with the Class Teacher, SENCO, and multi-agency therapists to maintain a highly consistent and secure learning framework
Requirements
Resilient Empathy: The unique ability to stay perfectly grounded, patient, and supportive during moments of student anxiety or challenging behaviour
Proactive Intuition: An innate awareness of a student's emotional state, allowing you to intervene with a calming change of pace before their frustration mounts
Unwavering Reliability: Because our pupils depend heavily on predictable routines, you must be a dependable, consistent figure who can commit to a full-time schedule
Transferable Insight: Prior experience in support work, child care, youth mentoring, sports coaching, or psychology is incredibly beneficial, though a genuine heart for SEND advocacy is essential
Compliance: An enhanced Child & Adult DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad)
