This important position is for an adaptable and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant ready to support the dedicated staff at a well-regarded specialist school in Ely. The role is offered on a contract basis, presenting strong opportunities for continuity and extended employment. Working closely under the direction of the class teacher and therapeutic staff, your core function is to be a key enabler for the student. You will be responsible for providing essential academic and emotional support, ensuring the successful implementation of individualised learning plans (EHCPs). This involves assisting with educational tasks, supporting social and communication development, managing resources, and providing necessary personal care and physical assistance, all while fostering a secure and stimulating classroom environment.
Job Responsibility:
Provide direct, focused support to individual students or small learning groups to facilitate their access to the curriculum and meet EHCP targets
Assist teaching staff with resource preparation, including adapting materials and managing sensory or specialist equipment
Apply pre-agreed positive behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques calmly and consistently
Support students with personal care needs (e.g., toileting, moving and handling, feeding) maintaining the highest standards of dignity and privacy
Effectively utilise communication methods such as Makaton, PECS, or visual aids to promote student expression
Monitor, record, and report on student progress, engagement levels, and any specific concerns to the relevant staff members
Requirements:
Significant, recent experience working as a Teaching Assistant, particularly within an SEN school or equivalent specialist provision
Formal training or certification (e.g., Level 2/3 TA qualification) is advantageous, but extensive, proven experience is highly valued
A deep understanding of the practical challenges and strategies associated with supporting students with complex learning and communication needs
Outstanding communication skills, demonstrating resilience, flexibility, and a positive, patient approach
Practical knowledge and comfort in providing personal care support
Must possess an Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be ready to apply for one immediately)
Nice to have:
Formal training or certification (e.g., Level 2/3 TA qualification)
