We are actively recruiting a resilient and adaptable TA for a supportive SEN School, offering a range of assignments from flexible supply work to potential long-term/permanent contracts. Your main responsibility will be to provide essential, hands-on support in the classroom and throughout the school day. Working alongside the class teacher, you will be key in executing the highly differentiated curriculum and managing a nurturing learning space. Your daily duties will be focused on implementing specific strategies from Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), assisting with educational tasks, supporting sensory needs, and providing vital assistance with personal and physical care, thereby maximising the students' educational experience.
Job Responsibility:
Deliver individualised and small-group support to enable students to access the curriculum and meet their specific learning targets
Collaborate with the teacher to prepare learning resources, manage equipment (e.g., sensory aids), and maintain a positive classroom setting
Provide necessary support with personal care, hygiene, and mobility, ensuring student dignity and comfort at all times
Effectively deploy and reinforce established behaviour and communication systems (including Makaton or PECS) across school activities
Accurately track and report on student behaviour, progress, and any immediate concerns to the teaching staff and relevant specialists
Uphold the school's commitment to safeguarding and contribute positively to the overall ethos of care and inclusion
Requirements:
Solid experience supporting children or young people with a range of SEN within an educational or care setting
Certification in a relevant field (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent qualification) is highly desirable, but deep practical experience is paramount
Proven ability to use proactive and therapeutic behaviour support techniques to manage complex needs effectively
Strong communication skills and an ability to build excellent professional relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
Familiarity with supporting physical needs and administering personal care is a significant advantage
A mandatory requirement is a valid Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or the willingness to apply immediately)
