This important role is for an empathetic and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to provide vital assistance at a respected specialist school near Mildenhall. The contract begins temporarily, with clear prospects for ongoing extension or transition to a permanent placement. Working directly alongside the teaching staff, your primary duty is to facilitate learning accessibility and emotional regulation for assigned students. You will be instrumental in implementing the strategies and targets outlined in their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Daily tasks include assisting with classroom activities, helping manage student behaviour, supporting transitions, and providing necessary personal care, all focused on boosting student independence and confidence.
Job Responsibility:
Deliver consistent one-to-one and small-group support to help students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their academic targets
Aid the teacher in preparing classroom materials, organising resources, and maintaining a stimulating, inclusive learning atmosphere
Apply established behaviour intervention techniques calmly and effectively, supporting students through moments of distress or challenge
Provide professional and discreet support with personal care needs (e.g., hygiene, feeding, mobility) when necessary
Utilise appropriate communication methods (including visual supports or alternative communication systems) to support student understanding and expression
Accurately document student interactions, progress, and any incidents, communicating relevant information clearly to the teaching team
Requirements:
Significant, recent experience working as a Teaching Assistant, preferably within a specialist setting (SEN or PRU) or supporting students with complex needs in mainstream
A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent) is advantageous, but practical expertise in SEN support is crucial
Proven ability to support students with a range of needs, particularly SEMH, Autism, and learning difficulties
Exceptional personal attributes: high resilience, patience, excellent reliability, and a genuinely positive approach to challenging behaviours
Familiarity with de-escalation training (e.g., Team Teach or similar) is highly desirable
Must hold a valid Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be ready to apply for one immediately)
