SEN Teaching Assistant

• Deliver consistent one-to-one and small-group support to help students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their academic targets
• Aid the teacher in preparing classroom materials, organising resources, and maintaining a stimulating, inclusive learning atmosphere
• Apply established behaviour intervention techniques calmly and effectively, supporting students through moments of distress or challenge
• Provide professional and discreet support with personal care needs (e.g., hygiene, feeding, mobility) when necessary
• Utilise appropriate communication methods (including visual supports or alternative communication systems) to support student understanding and expression
• Accurately document student interactions, progress, and any incidents, communicating relevant information clearly to the teaching team

• Significant, recent experience working as a Teaching Assistant, preferably within a specialist setting (SEN or PRU) or supporting students with complex needs in mainstream
• A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent) is advantageous, but practical expertise in SEN support is crucial
• Proven ability to support students with a range of needs, particularly SEMH, Autism, and learning difficulties
• Exceptional personal attributes: high resilience, patience, excellent reliability, and a genuinely positive approach to challenging behaviours
• Familiarity with de-escalation training (e.g., Team Teach or similar) is highly desirable
• Must hold a valid Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be ready to apply for one immediately)
