Job Description:

Are you a compassionate and resilient individual with a heart for supporting students with additional needs? Do you want to work in a setting where your efforts directly contribute to a child's independence and confidence? Are you looking for a rewarding role in a Bury St Edmunds school that values inclusive education and staff wellbeing? We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a wonderful SEN School in Bury St Edmunds. This role is perfect for someone who understands that "one size doesn't fit all" in education. You will be supporting students with a range of needs, which may include Autism (ASD), ADHD, or Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), helping them to navigate the curriculum and the school day successfully.

Job Responsibility:

  • Individualised Support: Provide 1:1 assistance to students, breaking down tasks into manageable steps to help them achieve their personal and academic goals
  • Emotional Regulation: Use positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques to help students manage their emotions in a classroom environment
  • Communication Support: Help students express themselves through various methods, potentially including visual aids or simplified language
  • Inclusive Classroom Aid: Assist the class teacher in adapting resources and activities to ensure they are accessible to students with different learning profiles
  • Social Development: Facilitate social interactions between students, helping them build meaningful friendships and teamwork skills
  • Progress Tracking: Monitor student engagement and wellbeing, providing regular updates to the SENCO and parents regarding milestones and challenges.

Requirements:

  • Experience or Transferable Skills: Experience in SEN is highly valued, but we also welcome applicants with a background in healthcare, care work, or psychology who have a passion for child development
  • Patience & Calmness: The ability to remain composed and supportive, providing a steady presence for students who may find school overwhelming
  • Adaptability: A flexible approach to your workday-no two days are the same in an SEN setting
  • Strong Communication: The ability to build professional rapport with students, staff, and external specialists
  • Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).

Nice to have:

  • background in youth work
  • experience in administering medication
  • experience in managing challenging behaviour
  • experience with autism spectrum disorders
  • experience with learning difficulties
  • experience with social emotional mental health
  • manual handling

  • mentor experience
  • personal care experience
  • planning

  • speech and language therapy experience
What we offer:

  • Local Bury St Edmunds Schools: Work in reputable schools within your local community with manageable commutes
  • Career Progression: Access to training and CPD that can help you move toward a career in teaching, educational psychology, or specialist SEN support
  • Dedicated Support: Work with Neeraj, your specialist consultant, who will match you with a school that suits your personality and experience
  • Referral Rewards: Earn a £300 voucher for every professional you successfully refer to our team
