We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a wonderful SEN School in Bury St Edmunds. This role is perfect for someone who understands that "one size doesn't fit all" in education. You will be supporting students with a range of needs, which may include Autism (ASD), ADHD, or Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), helping them to navigate the curriculum and the school day successfully.
Job Responsibility:
Individualised Support: Provide 1:1 assistance to students, breaking down tasks into manageable steps to help them achieve their personal and academic goals
Emotional Regulation: Use positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques to help students manage their emotions in a classroom environment
Communication Support: Help students express themselves through various methods, potentially including visual aids or simplified language
Inclusive Classroom Aid: Assist the class teacher in adapting resources and activities to ensure they are accessible to students with different learning profiles
Social Development: Facilitate social interactions between students, helping them build meaningful friendships and teamwork skills
Progress Tracking: Monitor student engagement and wellbeing, providing regular updates to the SENCO and parents regarding milestones and challenges.
Requirements:
Experience or Transferable Skills: Experience in SEN is highly valued, but we also welcome applicants with a background in healthcare, care work, or psychology who have a passion for child development
Patience & Calmness: The ability to remain composed and supportive, providing a steady presence for students who may find school overwhelming
Adaptability: A flexible approach to your workday-no two days are the same in an SEN setting
Strong Communication: The ability to build professional rapport with students, staff, and external specialists
Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).
