Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant for a full-time, long-term position at a "wonderful" SEN school in Southend-on-Sea. This school supports students with a range of needs, including Autism (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). Whether you are an experienced SEN professional or someone with a background in care, psychology, or youth work looking to transition into the classroom, this role offers the chance to become a vital part of a highly supportive multidisciplinary team.

Job Responsibility

  • Work 1:1 and in small groups to deliver sensory-based and academic activities tailored to each student's Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP)
  • Utilise specialist tools such as Makaton, PECS, and visual timetables to help non-verbal and semi-verbal students express their needs and feelings
  • Implement calm, de-escalation strategies and follow individual behaviour plans to ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment
  • Assist with personal care, mobility, and feeding where required, ensuring students' dignity and physical wellbeing are prioritised
  • Foster a sense of belonging and confidence in students, helping them develop the social skills needed for life beyond the classroom
  • Work alongside class teachers, therapists, and parents to provide consistent support and track student progress
